Professor Alwyn Seeds is to receive the 2018 Distinguished Educator Award of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S). This award is given to a distinguished educator in the field of microwave engineering and science who exemplifies the special human qualities of the late Fred J. Rosenbaum who considered teaching a high calling and demonstrated his dedication to the MTT-S through tireless service.
IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) President Thomas J. Brazil passed away unexpectedly on 13th April 2018. He was serving as President-Elect of the MTT-S in 2017 and President from January 2018. The Memorials Committee is planning to recognise Professor Brazil and his contributions to the Society at IMS2018.
I have been working as an IEEE volunteer since I was a student and I really enjoy being part of an organisation which its core purpose is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. However, the main reason I really enjoy being a volunteer, is because thanks to IEEE, in every step of my career I have made great friends and grow my professional network around the world.

Mona Ghassemian is the new Vice-Chair of the IEEE UK and Ireland Section. She is a PhD graduate of the King’s College London who has spent most of her career in the UK working for King’s College London and University of Greenwich in the field of mobile communications and wireless sensor networks and involved in European projects. She is now a research scientist delivering smart health and well-being system services and a visiting Research Associate at King’s College London.
As the new Chair of IEEE UK and Ireland Section, Mike Hinchey looks forward to building on the great advances of his predecessor Professor Ali Hessami. We will be building on this in 2018 and 2019 with events, lectures and conferences organised by IEEE Society Chapters, Young Professionals, Women in Engineering and Student Groups in all parts of the UK & Ireland, he adds.
