A fantastic start to the WIE sponsored Coding in Python for Beginners course with over 60 women coming along to try coding for the first time.
The IEEE United Kingdom and Ireland Blockchain Group Launch took place on Monday 24th February 2020 at London Metropolitan University and was attended by 100 delegates ranging from Blockchain professionals to those new to the subject and wanting to understand more.
On Wednesday, 12th February 2020, the IEEE Power and Energy Society Student Branch Chapter at the University of Manchester hosted their Annual General Meeting (AGM).
SIGHT Project: “Inclusive multi-sensor platform for autistic kids that encourage social interaction” Training Session
On Wednesday 19th February a training session for Stepping Stones staff took place in Stepping Stones Play & Learn Group premises. The training was given by personnel of the equipment manufacturer who spent more than 4 hours demonstrating how the system works, the App content, advanced features and best practices.

The UK & Ireland Section has been awarded an IEEE Milestone plaque to celebrate a major development in superconducting magnet technology. The dedication ceremony will be held at the Siemens Magnet Technology factory at Enysham, near Oxford, on May 1st 2020.
IEEE UK&I Section were honoured to have IEEE President, José M. F. Moura and IET President, Peter William Bonfield as speakers at the 2019 Christmas Lecture. Professor Moura spoke on “Data (Big), Computing (Fast), and Algorithms (Learning) – The New Opportunities for a Bright Future” and Dr Bonfield, “Perspectives on Engineering and Technology for the Future”.

On Tuesday 4th February a meeting with academics from Computer Science and Electronic Engineering Department and Psychology Department took place at University of Essex including a presentation by the project lead Eduardo Audiche which showed what SIGHT is, how it works and the most important details of the project “Inclusive multi-sensor platform for autistic kids that encourage social interaction” implemented at Stepping Stones Play and Learn Group premises in Colchester.
The UK and Ireland Section sends its warmest congratulations to Dr Cyril Onwubiko for his appointed as an IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Visitor (DV) for the period 2020-2022.
As a result of new initiative projects from the IEEE Electronic Devices Society, funds are available for students to spend time in industry in a number of upcoming areas of quantum technologies.
