Sinead O’Keefe of the University of Limerick organised the Women in Engineering Program held in conjunction with the IEEE 5th World Forum on Internet of Things. This was held from the 15 to the 18th April 2019. The event, aimed at professional women in technology, was designed to provide an opportunity to create communities to facilitate knowledge sharing and provide interactive sessions for discussion and collaboration.
The keynote by Donna O’Shea of Cork IT spoke of the Complexities if being the Token Woman. The panel including Grainne Barry of STATS Data & Tech Ltd, Grainne Murphy of Analog Devices, Amaria Alexandra Paun of EPFL and Ita Richardson of University of Limerick spoke on leadership. The session was so interactive that it was difficult to break the group up for lunch!
Following lunch Maria-Alexandra Paun spoke about the WIE activities of Region 8. Ruth Lennon, Letterkenny I.T. & a member of the IEEE WIE UK & Ireland Affinity Group Committee spoke of opportunities to contribute to the activities of the IEEE WIE for the UK and Ireland. In particular the call to action emphasised the many areas that people could contribute.
