New Mentoring Scheme for Student and Young Professional Members Launched

The UK and Ireland Section Life Member Affinity Group (LMAG) is launching a new mentoring scheme to support Student and Young Professional members about to enter employment, or who have already started a career in industry. The objectives are similar to those of the on-line IEEE Mentor Centre scheme, but the service will also be offered on a face-to-face basis where that is feasible.

The mentors will be IEEE members, such as Life members, with significant industrial experience, able to advise on issues such as job-seeking, the preparation of CVs, interview techniques, responding to job offers and dealing with appraisal.  The scheme will be introduced on a limited scale at first, to gauge its impact and the likely benefits achievable. Student Branches in the London Area will be chosen for the launch. Depending on the availability of the volunteer mentors and the demand for the service, it will be rolled out across the Section later this year.

Expressions of interest, comments, and suggestions, would be welcomed.
