Dear Members of the IEEE UK & Ireland Section
The Section’s strategy is focused on delivering better member value through developing closer ties with industry, consolidating and extending our academic connections and reviewing & improving our services. In pursuit of sustainable and mutually rewarding collaboration with industry, we planned and held a senior Industry-IEEE Forum on 12th December in London. Given IEEE’s emphasis on stronger industry collaboration, the IEEE President Barry Shoop chaired the session and outlined the key IEEE benefits and offerings of relevance to the industry. We also had an independent perspective on the current and emerging needs from Sir Robin Saxby, the ex CEO and founder of ARM.
With senior representatives from Rolls Royce, ARM Holdings, Surrey Satellites and the National Grid, our first Forum session explored the potential for more extensive engagement and collaboration between IEEE and the key industrial enterprises in the UK and Ireland. We are developing an Industry focused portfolio and will be following the Forum findings up with more events and direct engagement that will no doubt result in better member value in the Section.
There are more exciting developments in the pipeline that we are rolling out including Section’s Mentoring Scheme, an on-demand library of Thematic Training material in support of members’ CPD, a series of Young Entrepreneurs workshops, a Commemoration Event for JL Baird on 27th January and a Section Wide Members’ Day later in 2017. I also look forward to hearing your views and suggestions in our next Members’ Survey that we will be conducting early in the New Year.
I take the opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Joyful and Prosperous New Year.
