IEEE Milestone Award: Active Shielding of Superconducting Magnets

Life Members

The UK & Ireland Section has been awarded an IEEE Milestone plaque to celebrate a major development in superconducting magnet technology. The dedication ceremony will be held at the Siemens Magnet Technology factory at Enysham, near Oxford, on May 1st 2020, and will be followed by a symposium of talks about the technology behind the invention of active shielding of superconducting magnets.

Due to the very limited space available for guests, members wishing to attend should notify the Life Member Committee Chair (c.turner@ieee.org) to indicate their interest in attending, as soon as possible.

Further details will follow as they become available.

Commenting on the award, Life Members Affinity Group Chair, Charles Turner said

We are very excited and honoured by this award.  This will be the 16th Milestone awarded to the Section through the efforts of the Life Member Committee. More proposals are in progress, including the EMI CT Scanner, The J. Lyons Company LEO Computer, the Manchester University work on early digital computers, and the STL Fibre Optics.

The LMAG Committee welcomes offers from members interested in contributing to the preparations for these Milestone proposals.
