We have built a power line inspection robot capable of traversing high voltage power lines under live line conditions. The seminar will provide an overview of the development of the robot covering a wide range of engineering skills and touch on the really difficult problem of converting a laboratory specimen into a commercial product.
About the speaker: Edward Boje is currently Professor and Head of Electrical Engineering at the University of Cape Town. He has undertaken research and consulting work in the field of control systems, quantitative feedback design, system identification, state estimation and power line robotics.
Prof. Boje has industrial experience in the biotechnology, process instrumentation and control, paper and pulp, defence, mining and electrical power (generation and transmission) industries. He is a registered professional engineer in South Africa, a fellow of the SA Academy of Engineering and a member of the IEEE.
