The Education Society Chapter was formed over a decade ago. It aims to support academic members in the broad area of higher education, including topics such as pedagogy, educational technology, and teaching strategies for the Internet age.
Although its emphasis is directed towards Electrical and Computer Engineering, both Continuing Education and Professional Development are also covered. In the UK & Ireland Chapter there are about 60 members, almost all in the higher education sector.
In recent years, the Chapter has organised workshops and lectures for final year students and postgraduates on topics such as intellectual property rights, ethics in engineering, history of technology, and career development. A new mentoring scheme, based on the IEEE Mentor Centre model, is being introduced for members of Student Branches.
