Professor Erol Gelenbe FIEEE FACM FIFIP FIET FRSS, was awarded the honour of Commander of the National Order of Merit of France by President Macron in May 2019, for services to research and higher education. The honour was conferred by Madame Frederique Vidal, Minister of Higher Education and Research at the official residence of the Minister in Paris on 3rd July 2019.
Dr Mona Ghassemian, Chair of IEEE UK and Ireland Section, commented; “We are proud to share Professor Gelenbe’s recognition with the IEEE community and wish him continued success as we celebrate this important milestone.”
Previously, in 2015 he had been awarded Knight of the Legion of Honour, France’s highest civilian or military honour.
In November of 2019 he was elected to the first class of 18 Fellows of IFIP (The International Federation of Information Processing) which includes just two Fellows from the UK, Erol Gelenbe and Sir Tony Hoare FRS.
